Spelling Bee Audition Information & Registration

Auditions for our summer production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee are open to anyone one year post-secondary or older (High School Class of 2022 or older).

NOTE: Ashland is no longer prioritizing “alumni” in this production slot, as in previous years.

An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box.

There is no fee to audition or participate in this production.

To sign up for Spelling Bee auditions, please read all of the information below and then fill out the audition form. On the audition form, you’ll be able to upload your headshot, resume and video audition.

Auditions will be accepted through 11:59p on Sunday, April 30th at the link above.

  • Slate: State your name and title of your song.

  • Song: Sing a song of your choosing that shows your personality and vocal prowess.

You also are invited to record videos of any, all, or none of the provided vocal selections or sides of the 9 primary character. You can view these in the Audition Packet. Videos of sides or vocal selections can be submitted on the audition form.

We recommend using a site like YouTube (make your video “unlisted”), Google Drive, or Dropbox to host your audition video. Your headshot and resume can be submitted on the audition form (headshot is required, resume is optional).
